Here's a small brand that deserves wider recognition. Made in Bardstown, Kentucky, Corner Creek Reserve Bourbon Whiskey, aged eight years (and 88 Proof), offers a lovely burnished amber color and a pungent, resonant Bananas Foster-toffee-dried apricot-orange zest bouquet borne on a tide of autumn leaves and damp humus; this is a bourbon that doesn't want you to forget its origins in earthly fields of wheat, rye, and corn. In the mouth, it's sweet, powerful, cleansing, and essential.

For two consecutive years, in the Holiday issues of Tastings, from the Beverage Testing Institute, Corner Creek Reserve Bourbon Whiskey (8 years old, 88 proof), was awarded a 90 Rating, one of the highest ratings given. Reviews for 2001 and 2002 have again garnered the rating of "Exceptional."

In fact, Corner Creek was the only Bourbon priced well below $30 to receive a score of 90 or above. Most of the top Bourbons were $40 and higher, even up to $150. Corner Creek, however, is priced in the mid-twenty-dollar range, making it an incredible value.

Here is what the Beverage Testing Institute said about Corner Creek:

"Deep amber hue. Hedonistic sweet wood, smoke and charred barrel aromas. A very smooth attack leads to a medium-bodied palate. Refined, supple, flavorful finish. Rounded and elegant, this is a very refined style."
